About the Collection
Newer and more popular physical books can be browsed on the third and fourth floors. Children’s Books are located on low bookshelves on the third floor. The Library also has a small collection of rare books, including historical children's books, in Special Collections and Archives. The rest of our book collection is stored onsite in the Library Retrieval System (LRS). Request LRS books within OneSearch. For the most part, our physical books are organized according to the Library of Congress Classification system.
Children’s Books
The Children’s Book Collection encompasses a wide range of genres for children, including fiction, picture books, fairy tales, folklore, poetry, and rhymes, as well as nonfiction books designed to introduce readers to the world around them. The collection includes texts tailored to early readers (E); children up to 12 years old (J); and young adults over 12 years old (S). Did you know? The Children’s Book Collection is the only section of the Library that uses the Dewey Decimal Classification system.
