Working in the Library
Thank you for your interest in student employment at the J. Paul Leonard Library. The Library is a pleasant work environment and is very popular with students seeking campus employment. We have a limited number of positions available each semester. We encourage you to apply for other campus positions as well.
Work Eligibility Requirements
Before you can be hired for a Student Assistant job, you need to complete the I-9 (Employment Eligibility Verification) process. To complete the process, go to the Dean of Students office, SSB 403, Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Two pieces of documentation are required:
- A photo ID that establishes identity, such as a state-issued driver's license or a state-issued ID card with photograph.
- Documents that establish employment eligibility, such as a Social Security card, a birth certificate, or a valid passport. Documents presented must be originals, not copies.
International Students
Prior to starting work, you must see the Office of International Programs, the tax specialist in Internal Audit, and the Dean Of Students. International students must have a Social Security number in order to be paid.
Type of Jobs Available
Work-Study Jobs (WS)
Work-Study is a form of federal government financial aid and does not apply to international students. You may earn up to, but not more than, the total Work-Study award on your Offer Letter. You must be enrolled full-time at SF State to be employed in a Work-Study position (12 units for undergraduates, 8 units for graduate students).
Student Assistant Jobs (SA)
The Student Assistant program is NOT a financial aid program. It is funded by the state and provides part-time, on-campus positions available to students who are enrolled at least half-time at SF State (6 units for undergraduates, 4 units for graduate students).
To Apply
Log into Handshake using your SF State ID and password. Each job closes at midnight on the application deadline date. Late applications will not be forwarded to the hiring supervisor.
What Happens Next
All applications received by midnight on the application deadline date are forwarded to the hiring supervisor.
