Library Accounts & Cards

My Account

Sign in to My Account in OneSearch to see what you have checked out, renew books, check whether you have any Library fines, and more.

To sign in, you need a valid OneCard / SF State ID number and the password you use for SF State email or Canvas. Special borrowers, including Friends of the Library and Alumni Association members, will need to visit the Library once to set up or refresh their accounts so they can sign in to OneSearch.

Library Borrowing Access

In order to borrow items from the Library, and to take advantage of other Library services such as the online databases, you must have an active nine-digit SF State ID number. Generally, this is your OneCard/SF State ID.

New Students, Staff & Faculty

After you get your new OneCard/SF State ID, try to sign in to OneSearch to see if your account is active. If you cannot sign in, contact circmail@sfsu.edu or stop by the Book Checkout & Pickup Desk on the Library 1st Floor to have your account activated.

Special Borrowers Cards

Patrons who are not current SF State students, faculty or staff, may qualify for a Special Borrowers Card, which provides limited borrowing privileges for items in our circulating collections of physical materials. These categories of patrons can include Friends of the J. Paul Leonard Library (FOL) membership, Alumni Association membership, Faculty from other CSU campuses, and many more. For a full list of categories that may qualify for Special Borrower Library access, please consult the Special Borrowers Card page.

Note: currently none of the paid Library memberships, including FOL and the Alumni Association, provide access to the online databases, other electronic resources, or InterLibrary Loan.

Community Users

Library users from the community are welcome to use library services in person within the Library. In order to borrow books, non-CSU affiliated Library users may join the Friends of the J. Paul Leonard Library. Community users may not access library databases from off-campus or use interlibrary loan.
