Updates to Our Hours

When the Library is open, every floor of the SF State Library is open.
Summer sessions are underway, and your Library has switched to summer hours, simplified our schedule, and added a mobile-friendly calendar!
We are open Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. – 7 p.m., and Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. The Book Checkout & Pickup Desk closes at 5 p.m. daily. We will be closed on weekends until mid-August.
Now, when we say the Library is open from 8 to 7, we mean all floors of the SF State Library — from the study rooms on the ground floor to the quiet study space and open stacks on the fourth floor.
We will be closed Thursday, June 19, for Juneteenth and Friday, July 4, for Independence Day.
The Special Collections & Archives reading room and the Digital Media Studio & MakerSpace are available only by appointment during the summer. Email specialcollections@sfsu.edu (Special Collections & Archives) or cnovak@sfsu.edu (DMS & MakerSpace) to ask about visiting.
New calendar layout for Library Hours
Did you notice? The Library Hours page and the Today’s Hours box on our homepage look a little different now.
We used to list the Lobby & Events Room, Main Library, Research Commons, and Study Commons separately because they had different hours. Now that they have the same opening and closing times, we’ve simplified the list.
Questions? We’d love to hear from you. You can always send us an email, call (415) 338-1552, or ask a librarian using our 24/7 live chat.
