Description
KPIX-TV news footage from March 29, 1976 with reporter Eric Hill featuring scenes from outside the courtroom of Superior Court Judge Joseph Karesh, who has just sentenced four men to life imprisonment for the Zebra murders, after what was then the longest trial in California state history (376 days). The men convicted were: Jessie Lee Cooks; Larry C. Green; J. C. Simon and Manuel Moore. This series of murders, which took place in San Francisco during 1973/4, came to be known as the Zebra murders after the special police radio band assigned to the investigation. Includes a press conference with chief defense attorney Clinton. W. White, who states: "These men have never indicated anything other than just law abiding citizens like yourself ... There will always be doubt in my mind about this case." Ends with brief, silent views of murder scenes. As of March 2024 when this clip was released, Green is the only convicted man still alive, in the California State Prison in Solano. Opening graphic designed by Carrie Hawks.
