Description
KPIX-TV documentary from 1965 narrated by John Caple about the re introduction of a steam locomotive service on the California Western Railroad's line from Fort Bragg (Mendocino County) to Willits in July 1965. Includes an historical summary of how diesel trains (named 'skunks' because they smelled) replaced the steam locomotives which used to transport passengers from 1904 onwards scenes of people riding the newer skunk trains and excerpts from the 1903 film 'The Great Train Robbery'. Also features views of steam locomotive No. 45 being restored by engineers and making it's first journey along the Fort Bragg-Willits line on June 28th 1965. This film was written and produced by Caryl Coleman and directed by Dick Williams.
