Please note: This 'kinescope' recording was originally made in 1961 by filming the picture from a live video monitor. The picture quality - especially sharpness - is much lower than the rest of our footage produced on 16mm film. KPIX-TV documentary from 1961 presented by Wanda Ramey examining the issues for Bay Area schools raised by Arthur S. Trace's book 'What Ivan Knows that Johnny Doesn't' which compares the relative quality of Soviet and American reading programs. Features views of teaching in four schools: St Alphonsus Liguori School (San Leandro); Ford Country Day School (Palo Alto); 3 Rs School (San Rafael) and the Commodore Sloat School (San Francisco). Also includes interviews with Mr & Mrs John Ford Miss Tennessee Kent James J. Lynch David H. Russell and others. This film was written and produced by Lee Mendelson and directed by Bob Spearman.
