Description
KPIX-TV news footage from March 2, 1973 featuring scenes from a press conference at the San Francisco Indian Center with Adam Fortunate Eagle. As Chairman of the United Bay Area Council of American Indians, Nordwall expresses support for demands made by Native Americans in Wounded Knee, SD that the Federal government should investigate their grievances. Nordwall states: "We are asking all Americans to recognize that in truth, our cause is your very own. It is the cause of liberty and justice. You should not fear us: but you should fear those forces that would attempt to deny us our rights. Those that would destroy the basic freedoms are the common enemy of all Americans." He goes onto to place the Wounded Knee Occupation into its wider historical context. Opening graphic designed by Carrie Hawks.
