Description
KRON-TV news footage from November 18 1966 featuring scenes from a press conference with civil rights activist and organizer Stokely Carmichael, who in response to a question about white "backlash" states: " I don't think there's any such thing as a backlash. I think that is a rationalization for white America of the racist nature of America." He goes onto reflect on California's voting to approve Proposition 14 in 1964 (overturned by the Supreme Court in 1966) and argues: "That was white people reinforcing their institutions and their ways of life." This same press conference is covered in more depth in our film ID number KPIX 29752. Opening graphic designed by Carrie Hawks.
