Description
KPIX-TV news footage from January 5, 1979 with reporter Jim Avila featuring brief scenes from an interview with mime artist Robert Shields, who is taking a break from rehearsals at the Flint Center in Cupertino, Santa Clara County. Shields reflects on the place of street artists in San Francisco: "There is no place for young acts to get started anymore. The only real place is the streets. It's our form of vaudeville in our generation ... The people in San Francisco should support street artists. They should really back them in what they're doing because its the only city in the world that does this sort of thing successfully." Opening graphic designed by Carrie Hawks.
