Description
KPIX-TV news footage from May 3, 1979 with reporter Ed Arnow featuring scenes from the Marine Mammal Center in Sausalito, CA, which is dealing with record numbers of seal patients. As a result, Arnow explains: "The workers and the facilities are just being taxed beyond their limits." Includes views of elephant seals and harbor seals being cared for and an interview with a volunteer called "Danni", who describes the constant strain that the center's 37 volunteers and 4 paid staff are under. Established in 1975, the center is now the world's largest marine mammal hospital. Opening graphic designed by Carrie Hawks.

This 16mm b&w positive reversal film print was transferred in 4K (4096 x 2970) using a Lasergraphics ScanStation film scanner, in July 2023.
