Description
KPIX-TV news footage from June 7 and 8 , 1971 with reporter Pat O'Brien opening with brief scenes from a confrontation between the houseboat residents of Waldo Point in Sausalito and the coastguard, who are trying to tow away selected houseboats from Gates 5 and 6 of the dock. The authorities claim these houseboats are not up to building (or safety) codes. One resident states: "We feel that there's a human right for people to inhabit their houses and it's a basic human dignity that we're trying to protect!" Followed by views of a court hearing and meeting of the Marin County Supervisors the next day, with an explanatory voice-over from O'Brien. Opening graphic designed by Carrie Hawks.

Note that some of the 16mm newsfilm shot on June 7 by the KPIX camera operator was taken from the processed film reel by KPIX producers in the 1970s - presumably for some follow-up story - and not returned to the film cans. We don't know where these picture elements wound up.

This 16mm film print was remastered in 4K (4096 x 2970) using a Lasergraphics ScanStation film scanner, in May 2022. Film shrinkage was measured in May 2022 at 0.35%.
