Description
KPIX-TV news footage from February 15 1973 featuring brief interviews with UC Santa Cruz co-eds, who explain why they've stopped hitch hiking recently, in respnse to a series of co-ed rapes and murders. One of them admits she's concerned about: "All the weird things that've been happening, with the rapes and girls being chopped up and things like that." This report might have been in response to the arrest of serial killer Herbert Mullin in Santa Cruz on February 13 or just a follow up on the recent spate of murders by serial killer Edmund Kemper (also in the Santa Cruz area), who targetted mostly co-eds and wasn't arrested until April 1973. Includes an interview with a UC Santa Cruz student identified as Cameron Smith, who has organized a rape hotline in response to all these attacks on women. Opening graphic designed by Carrie Hawks.
