Episode from KRON-TV's Decades series made in 1987 and presented by Evan White which uses original news footage and contemporary interviews to reflect on Bay Area history from the 1950s including issues relating to: changing fashions; growth of the suburbs; quality of life; television; the fear of communism and threat of nuclear war; popularity of the automobile; the Harry Bridges trial; racial segregation; North Beach and the 'Beat' generation; government surveillance and sports. Also features interviews with: Herb Caen; Lee Bledsoe (Mr Lee); Ken and Bunny Gillespie; Bill Turner; Tom Parkinson; Chuck Muscatine; Vincent Hallinan; Bill Ward; Joe Bailon; Dr. Dan Collins; K.C. Jones; Enrico Banducci; Dick Partee; Phyllis Diller; Leo Reigler and Michael McClure. The Executive Producer on this program was Bob Klein and the Programming Director was Dave Wilson with editing by Ron Johnson. This Emmy Award winning series traced the rich history of San Francisco from the Gold Rush to the 21st Century. Opening graphic designed by Carrie Hawks.
