Description
KPIX-TV news footage from May 23, 1967 featuring scenes from a press conference by California's Governor Ronald Reagan, who outlines certain forms of abortion he believes to be morally justifiable, relating to protecting a mother's health and those which he feels are not. Reagan categorically rejects: "The taking of the unborn life simply on the supposition that it's going to be less than a perfect human being" and goes on to state: "I don't see any difference between that and what Hitler tried to do." On June 14, 1967 Reagan signed into law the Therapeutic Abortion Act, making California only the 3rd state to adopt such legislation. Opening graphic designed by Carrie Hawks.
