Description
KPIX-TV news footage from January 28, 1966 featuring brief, silent views of Prince Charles of England (now King Charles III) stopping over at San Francisco Airport, en route from New York to Honolulu, with his final destination being Sydney, Australia. Prince Charles - then aged 17 - had just completed his education at Gordonstoun School in Scotland and was about to spend one semester at the Timbertop campus of Geelong Grammar School, near Mansfield in Victoria, Australia. Note that Prince Charles arrived at 7:05pm on a Quantus flight and was only at the airport for 75 minutes before heading off on the next leg of his 12,000 mile journey. An article on p.3 of the January 29, 1966 edition of the San Francisco Chronicle newspaper explains that after being greeted by British consul-general Peter Dalton and acting Australian consul-general Alfred Redpath Prince Charles posed for photographers, before entering the Quantus VIP lounge.
