Description
KPIX-TV news footage from June 23, 1970 with reporter Dave Monsees featuring scenes from a press conference with Karin Kascher at the St Francis Hotel in San Francisco. Kascher won the 46th annual Miss California competition on June 20 in Santa Cruz as Miss Hayward and will go on to represent California in the Miss America competition in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Kascher answers questions from reporters which focus primarily on the "women's lib movement" but points out that she's furthering her music career and states: "This pageant is the largest women's ... scholarship in the world. And to further my education, this is the way I'm going to do it." Kascher plays with the Hayward Symphony Orchestra and won the talent portion of the contest by playing 'Méditation' by composer Jules Massenet on the violin. She will enter CSU Hayward on a music scholarship after her one year "reign" is over. Opening graphic designed by Carrie Hawks.
