Description
KTVU news footage from December 30, 1968, with reporter Claud Mann, featuring scenes from 920 Montgomery Street in San Francisco, where 30-year old merchant seaman Monty Yee has just committed suicide inside the Kue On Hotel with a .22 caliber semi-automatic rifle. In the process of shooting himself, Yee also shot 36-year old attorney Marvin W. Faanes to death, who was sat outside the building in his VW Bug eating a ham sandwich, on lunch break from the Melvin Belli law firm. Includes interviews with an SFPD inspector (possibly Jack Clarey, tbc) and public works employee Jerry Ollison who was working 1-block away and relates to Mann what eyewitness Ann Payne told him about this incident. There are also views of Yee's body in a hallway of the Kue On Hotel, of police and spectators surrounding the VW Bug and of the deceased being carried to a waiting ambulance. An account of this incident can be read on p.3 of the December 31, 1968 edition of the San Francisco Chronicle newspaper, by Rob Haeseler. Note that Marvin Faanes was a Korean War veteran and graduate of UC Berkeley and Hastings Law College. Opening graphic designed by Carrie Hawks.
