Description
KPIX-TV news footage from December 9th 1971 with reporter Ben Williams featuring scenes of residents from Marin City at the San Francisco offices of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), who are there to demand purchase rights for 160 acres on the ridgeline above Marin City, which was sold by the Federal government and the Marin County Redevelopment agency to a New York developer 10 years ago. HUD project director Julian Fitzhugh states that HUD is: "Not a party to the ridgeland agreement" and a spokesman for the Marin Urban Development Association, formed by Marin City residents, asserts that: "We should have some say as to the kind of housing which will meet the needs of young people ... young families who cannot be housed and who were not a part of the original statistics for which the existing housing was built. We are underhoused." He goes on to claim that residents have been excluded from taking part the planning and development of the ridgeland. Includes views of Marin City and the ridgelands above it.
