Description
KPIX-TV news footage from July 11 1961 featuring brief scenes of actress Marilyn Monroe (1926-1962) leaving the Polyclinic on 2nd Avenue in Manhattan, where she'd undergone gallbladder surgery on June 29. Includes views of Monroe surrounded by attendents, police officers, the press and onlookers, as they move along a hospital corridor (she's in a wheelchair). At one point Monroe comments: "I'm feeling much better, thank you" to a reporter but her voice is mostly drowned out by all the hullabaloo. Ends with silent scenes of Monroe speaking to reporters from inside a waiting car. Opening graphic designed by Carrie Hawks.

Note: this film also features shots of Liz Taylor and Eddie Fisher at an airport, at the end of the 16mm film reel (b&w, optical sound). This short clip has not been transferred yet.
