Description
KPIX-TV news footage from September 20, 1966 with reporter Pat O'Brien, featuring scenes of Lady Bird Johnson arriving at Hamilton Air Force Base in Marin County, on the first leg of her "Faces West" tour of California. Includes views of Johnson being greeted by large crowds and giving a speech, in which she states: "It's wonderful to be here, to see you again and to have before me an exciting itinerary, which will take me to some of the proudest possessions of this state." Johnson is then seen boarding a chartered helicoper which will fly her over to Drakes Beach, to dedicate the nation's newest national park: Point Reyes National Seashore. Note that the TV Archive was one of the community partners for The Lady Bird Diaries, which had its California premiere at the DocLands Documentary Film Festival on May 11, 2023.
