Description
KRON-TV news report from March 6th 1969 featuring a press conference by the Third World Liberation Front (TWLF) in which spokesman Richard Aoki (1938-2009) states: "We will settle for nothing less than a full Third World College for the Fall of 1969. Developed by the Third World faculty by Third World students and Third World community people. We have had a strike. We have a strike. We will continue to strike." The clip also features a second spokesman who declares: "the roadblock to a settlement to this strike now is very clearly in the Chancellor's office." The strike to which he refers began in January 1969 as an effort to establish a black studies department at the University of California Berkeley and became a direct action to support the establishment of a Third World College which would include departments devoted to four major groups: Black Americans Mexican Americans Asian Americans and Native Americans.
