Description
Episode from KRON-TV's Emmy Award winning Decades series made in 1997 and presented by Suzanne Shaw which uses original news footage and contemporary interviews to reflect on Bay Area history from the 1970s including issues relating to: counter culture; sports; Watergate; the Vietnam War; the murder of Harvey Milk and George Moscone; the women's liberation movement; the birth of the home computer industry; California cuisine and the Jonestown massacre. Also features interviews with: Cleve Jones; Lillian Rabinowitz; Peter Berg; Joe Spano; Sacheen Littlefeather; Dianne Feinstein; Lee Childress; Ben Bagdikian; Jerry Rubin; Steve Wozniak; Alice Waters (who recalls that when Chez Panisse opened in 1971 on Shattuck Avenue in Berkeley a 4-course meal cost $3.95); Frank Falzon and Mel Wax. This program was written and produced by Jessica Abbe and edited by David Vandergriff. Note: this was also referred to as the Bay Area 2000 series. Opening graphic designed by Carrie Hawks.
