Description
A KRON-TV Assignment Four documentary report from 1971 narrated by Art Brown which looks at how three community organizations in San Francisco are trying to address the social problems being experienced by local youth. The New Society Youth Club (based out of the Olivet Presbyterian Church on Missouri Street in Potrero Hill) is trying to help their youth deal with issues relating to poverty and unemployment. RAP (Real Alternative Program) in the Mission District and its sister organization the Center for Change focus on actively helping youth on the streets with the RAP Youth Patrol and by working with drug users. The Youth Council (housed in The Old Hungry Eye nightclub) gives youth from the Chinatown/North Beach neighborhoods an opportunity to discuss their problems and seek advice. Features interviews with: Mojo Tubutu and Walter Robinson of the New Society Youth Club; Jim Queen and Tommie Kim of RAP; Madelyn Silva and Roberto Monge (parents of children in the RAP program); Gene Royal and Ken Sinclair from the Center for Change and Albert Cheng Warren Mar and Ray Fong of the Youth Council. This film was written produced and directed by Mike Fuller.
