Description
KRON-TV Assignment Four documentary report from 1963 narrated by Jerry Jensen which considers how "San Francisco is facing a new problem" with a "yearly migration of single girls" into the city which places a strain on support services. Issues of housing employment and social integration for this large influx of women are discussed by: Robert Theodore (Ted) McIlvenna of Glide's Young Adult Program; Brigadier Lawrence Smith Brigadier George Briggs and Mrs George Briggs (Salvation Army) and Mayor George Christopher. Includes many views of San Francisco facts and statistics about this annual migration and also moral assumptions about the underlying motives of these women which might appear shocking to modern audiences. This film was written and produced by Roy Meredith and directed by Al Scollay.
