Description
KQED News report from the Bay Area on February 26th 1971 featuring the 'Black House' school project and examining the issue of positive discrimination within the education system by African Americans. Opens with extended scenes of children riding on school buses and being asked by a reporter what they learned today in class. Followed by an interview with an African American educator who describes the "psychological roadblocks" that his students have to deal with explaining: "There's no way of getting around the effect that this negative image a lot of black students have of themselves has on their willingness or ability to deal with basic skills like reading writing talking and thinking." Ends with interviews of African American mothers who describe how their children have responded to the Black House teaching program.
