Description
KQED News report from Salinas (California) on December 11th 1970 featuring speeches and interviews with religious leaders who declare their support for C?sar Ch?vez and the farm workers movement. Rabbi Tannenbaum from New York City associates the boycott of Bud Antle Inc. with the American people?s insistence on the right to self-determination: ?We support it on the basis of this being a very profound cultural and social thing that is happening in American life as well as a specific labor question.? Unemployed farm workers are seen maintaining a vigil outside the Salinas jail where C?sar Ch?vez is being held for refusing to end the boycott. One of them is interviewed and explains how a contract between agricultural growers and workers will improve job security. Workers also discuss the practical implications of non-violence. Later that night a Catholic priest leads a mass vigil for Ch?vez outside the jail.
