KPIX Eyewitness News report from August 7th 1976 in by Bill Hillman featuring scenes from a Star Trek convention in Oakland's Municipal Auditorium. Includes an interview with actor George Takei (Star Trek's Sulu) who explains that the show's creator Gene Roddenbery (1921-91) is currently talking to Paramount Pictures about a Star Trek feature film production. He goes on to predict that: "I'm absolutely convinced that the feature film's going to be a super smash success and I'm sure it'll have life after the feature ... Star Trek indeed lives!" Also includes views of Star Trek fans enjoying the convention and a brief glimpse of actor James Doohan (Star Trek's Scotty) speaking with the press. It should be noted that Paramount Pictures feature film 'Star Trek: The Motion Picture' was released in 1979.
