Description
KPIX Eyewitness News report from December 5th 1970 in San Francisco by Belva Davis featuring a costumed demonstration by women protesting against employment descrimination and in support of the Equal Rights Amendment. This proposal was introduced in 1923 but wasn't passed by Congress until 1972. Includes views of a woman sweeping the sidewalk wearing a wedding dress and another dressed in a mortar and gown sat at a typewriter. Several women are interviewed and explain they are trying to emphasize the point that in some ways their employment status and prospects haven't improved since 1923. It should be noted that whilst this Amendment did pass Congress in 1972 it was never ratified at the State level and so was not adopted.
