Boycott of Bill Boyette's liquor store in Oakland

KPIX Eyewitness news report from August 13th 1971 featuring a rally outside Bill's Liquor an African-American owned liquor store on Grove Street in Oakland over the owner's refusal to make a weekly donation of money to the Black Panther Party's community initiatives or "Survival Programs." Contains shots of protesters marching outside the liquor store carrying signs that say "Don't Support This Store" "Support The Store That Supports The Survival Programs" and "Don't Buy From The Greedy." Features an interview with the owner of the store and President of the Cal-State Package Store and Taverns Owners Association Bill Boyette who claims that he has a right to make his own decisions about how much and to whom he contributes money. Boyette adds that he probably realizes the needs of the black community better than Mr. Seale because he has been gainfully employed all his life. Also contains views of Bobby Seale giving a speech outside the Black Panther Party's Central Headquarters at 1048 Peralta Street in Oakland. In his speech Seale says that "black people are tired they're sick and tired and they're tired of being sick and tired." Shows free goods being distributed to members of the black community.
