Description
KPIX Eyewitness News report from October 29th 1969 by Mike Lee in San Jose featuring a protest in San Jose against California Superior Judge Gerald S. Chargin's recent comments when sentencing a man of Hispanic background with incest: "We ought to send you out of the country - send you back to Mexico . . . You ought to commit suicide. That's what I think of people of this kind. You are lower than animals and haven't the right to live in organized society?just miserable lousy rotten people." Crowds are shown listening to speakers who refer to the Nazi holocaust in the context of racial profiling and one man declares his hope that soon there will be more Hispanic Judges. Lee ends by pointing out that the State Commission on Judicial Qualification will shortly declare whether Chargin must come before them for a hearing. The Commission recommended that the Supreme Court publicly censure Judge Chargin instead of recommending that he be removed from the bench.
