Monte Cristo Sailing Boat Feature

KPIX Eyewitness News report from October 8th 1969 by Dave Monsees at Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco featuring the old 3-masted sailing boat Monte Cristo. Includes scenes of the owner being interviewed and views of the Monte Cristo sailing under Golden Gate Bridge. It it worth noting that this is the boat from which Native American activists jumped overboard as it was circling Alcatraz on November 9th 1969 to claim the island by right of discovery. These were: Richard Oakes; Jim Vaughn; Joe Bill; Ross Haden and Jerry Hatch. This incident was the beginning of the occupation of Alcatraz Island by Native Americans which lasted from 1969-71.
