Description
KRON-TV news footage from October 25, 1966 with reporter Art Brown featuring scenes from a press conference with novelist and counterculture figure Ken Kesey at the San Mateo County Courthouse in Redwood City. Superior Court Judge Howard Hartley has just accepted pledges from 10 of Kesey's friends amounting to $30,000.00 in order to release Kesey, who had just completed serving a 6-month jail sentence for marijuana possession. But now Kesey still has to be driven up to City Prison in San Francisco, to face separate marijuana posession charges and also face a Federal charge of fleeing the US to avoid arrest in 1965. Kesey states: "I thought I knew quite a bit about dope and drugs but I've learned more in the last 3 or 4 days here in jail, than I have learned in the last 5 years running around outside." He also goes on to discuss the availability of LSD, his dismissal from a mental institution and a phobia of confinement. Includes brief views of Kesey's wife Norma "Faye" Kesey and their two sons Jed and Zane and an interview with Judge Hartley. Opening graphic designed by Carrie Hawks.
