Description
KPIX-TV news footage from July 18, 1969 with reporter Belva Davis from the Gate 5 area of the dock at Waldo Point in Sausalito, Marin County. Superior Court Judge E. Warren McGuire has just lifted a restraining order on an ordinance passed in December 1968 by the Marin County Supervisors which requires houseboat dwellers to bring their houseboats up to code. Judge McGuire ruled that Marin County has the right to remove any houseboats which aren't up to code and also disconnect gas and electricity to such dwellings. Includes an interview with Marin County administrator Alan Bruce who states: "Well naturally the County Board of Supervisors and officialdom in general is very pleased that the judge has upheld the position of the county, after a great deal of very careful work was done. Particularly in relation to the serious hazards - even electrocution - that he has pointed out in connection with the poor wiring in the houseboat area in Gate 5 of Waldo Point." He also emphasizes that Marin County: "Is not engaged in a crusade against the houseboat way of life itself but only against the extremely hazardous conditions that now exist there." Ends with silent views of the Gate 5 houseboat area. Opening graphic designed by Carrie Hawks.
