Description
KPIX-TV news footage from September 8 1972 featuring scenes from an interview with U.S. Olympic swimmer Rick DeMont, who was stripped of his men's 400m freestyle gold medal and prevented from competing in other events because the banned substance ephedrine was contained in his prescription asthma medication. DeMont had disclosed on his medical statement to the U.S. Olympic Committee (USOC) that he was taking the drugs Marax and Actifed for allergies to wheat and fur but USOC had not cleared them with the IOC's medical committee. Also includes brief views of Olympic gold medal winning U.S. swimmer Mark Spitz expressing support for his teammate's predicament.
