Description
KPIX-TV news footage from October 30, 1969 with reporter Belva Davis featuring a report by California Indian Legal Services, after its first year of operation. We are told: "The report concluded tha the Indian people of California have struggled to survive against great odds and their legal problems are complicated and have grown worse during a century of neglect." Includes a press conference with attorney Neil Levy, who works out of the Berkeley office and claims that Federal funding allocated to Native Americans is effectively being "squandered" by a dysfunctional bureaucracy. Another colleague identifies government agencies as being the main source of their client's legal problems and states they have law suits pending against all levels of government agencies. Ends with a summary by Davis of the efforts made by KPIX in October to present the "monumental problem" facing Native Americans in the US today. Opening graphic designed by Carrie Hawks.
