Huey P. Newton describes jail incident (in detail)

KRON-TV news footage from June 7th 1968 featuring brief scenes from an interview with co-founder of the Black Panther Party Huey P. Newton in jail, pending the start of his trial for the murder of Oakland Police Officer John Frey. Newton describes in detail a situation from "last Tuesday" which caused him and other inmates to protest against their treatment by police. His attorney Charles Garry is also interviewed and claims this represents: "A denial of the due process of law" and is "an inhuman way to treat anybody." This 16mm film reel was kindly donated to the TV Archive by David Webb Peoples in April 2023, who used to work as a film editor for KRON in the 1960s.
