Description
KPIX-TV news footage from April 17, 1969 with reporter Barry Tompkins featuring scenes from the San Francisco Giants opening game of the season at Candlestick Park against the San Diego Padres. Begins with a commentary from Tompkins about how and why baseball opening days are special and also includes views of Bobby Bonds practicing his swing, of Mayor Joseph Alioto throwing a ball, of the game itself and of crowds in the stadium. At one point Tompkins jokes that: "I gotta go, my caviar is getting lumpy!" The Giants eventually won this opening series 5-4. Opening graphic designed by Carrie Hawks.

This 16mm b&w reversal film print was scanned in 4K (4096 x 2970) using a Lasergraphics ScanStation film scanner, in April 2024.
