Description
KPIX News footage from November 24th 1967 featuring scenes from a press conference by sociologist and former Black Panther Dr. Harry Edwards at the St. Francis Hotel in San Francisco, about a proposed boycott of the 1968 Mexcio Olympic games. When asked by a reporter if he thinks this goal is "negative" Edwards replies emphatically: "No! What have we got to lose in the first place ... The United States has been able to stick itself hypocritically as the leader of the free world primarily because the racial problem in the United States has been defined as an internal affair ... The one thing that we will accomplish out of this is something that we have been trying to accomplish for a long time, ever since 1954. And that is to get the racial situation out from under the rubric - the jurisdiction of Uncle Sam - and get it into the world arena." Opening graphic designed by Carrie Hawks.
