Description
KPIX News report by Mike Lee from March 22nd 1972 featuring a visit by singer Dionne Warwick to San Jose's east side. Includes scenes of Ms. Warwick meeting with students at the Lee Mathson School and with councillor Al Garza at at local radio station, who reads a proclamation from Mayor Norman Mineta declaring that today is officially "Dionne Warwick Day." Ms. Warwick is asked by Lee to comment on the "black liberation movement" and she states: "I think it's quite necessary. It's something that is a long time in coming and finally it's happening." Ms. Warwick also describes a scholarship foundation that she has set up for "economically unable" students. Note that extended views of Ms. Warwick being driven around the freeways of San Jose whilst her 1968 hit single 'Do You Know the Way to San Jose' plays in the background have been removed from this screener.
