Description
KPIX-TV news footage from January 7 1971 with reporter Mike Lee featuring scenes of comedian and activist Dick Gregory speaking at a press conference at the Oakland Auditorium, prior to his delivering a speech there. Gregory reflects on his belief that: "Thanks to the young kids, particularly the white kids in America, they forced the civil rights movement into a human rights movement." Lee explains that Gregory's appearance is being sponsored by the Black Studies Department of Laney College. Also opens with views of large crowds of students waiting to get into the auditorium. This 16mm film print was remastered in 4K (4096 x 2970) using a Lasergraphics ScanStation film scanner, in August 2022.
