Description
KTVU news footage from April 1968 featuring scenes from an interview with co-founder of the Black Panther Party Bobby Seale, in which he talks about the killing of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Seale has just returned from the public funeral for Dr. King in Atlanta, GA on April 9th and reflects that with hundreds of thousands of mourners, most of whom he identified as being African American, it shows just how great a loss this was for the black community. He also goes on to speak about Dr. King's views on self defense, the civil rights movement and on the need for African Americans to defend themselves. When a reporter asks him: "Why do you think San Francisco and Oakland have been relatively quiet since Dr. King's assassination [in Memphis, TN]?" Seale replies emphatically: "Because the Black Panther Panther told them to be quiet! Exactly! Because the Black Panther Party told them to be quiet!" Opening graphic designed by Carrie Hawks.
