Description
KPIX-TV news footage from July 26, 1973 featuring scenes from an interview with former world No. 1 women's tennis player Billie Jean King, who reflects on the defeat of Margaret Court by Bobby Riggs on May 13 and looks forward to her own exhbiition match against Riggs. King points out that she has a "different temperament" to Court, claiming that she relishes pressure and will thus perform better that Court (who lost to Riggs 6-2, 6-1). King is also critical of the ridicule which Riggs directs towards women's tennis in public statements and admits: "I'd like to just set him straight." Note that this exhibition match, which was dubbed "Battle of the Sexes", took place on September 20, 1973 at the Houston Astrodome and King beat Riggs 6-4, 6-3, 6-3, winning prize money of $100,000. King was in the Bay Area to help stage a mini tournament at the Berkeley Tennis Club on July 28, for the benefit of The League to Save Lake Tahoe. Opening graphic designed by Carrie Hawks.
