Description
A segment from the c.1985 debut episode of KTVU's Assignment Two program, produced by Johnny Barnes Selvin, featuring the Abraham family, who were political refugees from Eritrea and travelled to Oakland via Sudan and Italy. Includes scenes of: Yemane Abraham, who was a musician in Eritrea, working for the Oakland Scavenger Company as a trash collector; of Oakland Catholic Charities, who helped the Abraham family and of Yemane being interviewed, as he reflects on opportunities they've found in America and their uncertain future: "America was not like I expected."
