Description
An incomplete and partial edit of KRON-TV's Assignment Four special report from 1974 by Ira Eisenberg about the houseboat community of Sausalito in Marin County, sourced from 16mm film A-B rolls. Includes: views of tourists and traffic on Sausalito's Bridgeway; views of houseboats on the waterfront; interviews with several members of the houseboat community (to be identified); an interview with Steve Siskind, lead architect of the proposed multi-million dollar Schoonmaker Marina project; an interview with Ray Roy, director of the Sausalito Chamber of Commerce and an interview with Sausalito's Mayor Evert Heynneman. One houseboat resident exclaims to Eisenberg: "On either coast, in any city in this whole country, where is there a houseboat community as beautiful and as together as this place is?" Opening graphic designed by Carrie Hawks.
Note that approximately 2/3rds of the A-B films elements that were preserved by KRON-TV from the making of 'Houseboat People' - and were used to produce the report which aired on Ch.4 in the Bay Area - were lost by KRON prior to our acquiring their film collection. We currently don't know where these missing picture elements are (and it's doubtful they survived).
This 16mm film print was remastered in 4K (4096 x 2970) using a Lasergraphics ScanStation film scanner, in June 2022. Film shrinkage was measured in May 2022 at 0.30%.
