Description
KPIX-TV news footage from April 16, 1972 with reporter Christopher Chow featuring scenes from an interview with science fiction writer Arthur C. Clarke (1917-2008), who talks about the profound impact of technology on modern society: "The whole society - everything man is - is technology. Clothes, cooking, weapons, tools, everything. Of course tools evolved from weapons, as we showed in '2001'. We've gotta have more technology, we've gotta understand technology." He's goes onto explain how people can better understand technology through education, which he believes offers: "Our only hope of suvival." Note that Clarke delivered a seminar on this subject to around 900 people in the Bay Area on April 16, 1972, sponsored by UC Berkeley Extension. Opening graphic designed by Carrie Hawks.
