Reserve a Room

The Library has 20 study spaces that you can reserve to study on your own or in a group. There are 12 rooms on the ground floor in a quiet area, six rooms in the first-floor Collaboration Studio, and two Team Collaboration Spaces on the second floor in an open study area.

NOTE: We are transitioning to a new room booking system. Use EMS for reservations through Sunday, Sept. 7.

Instructions for EMS

It is possible to reserve a room on your phone, but not recommended.

  1. Go to the link above and sign in with your SF State ID and password.
  2. Click “Create a Reservation” (desktop) or “New Booking” (mobile).
  3. Find Group Study Rooms and click “Book Now.”
  4. Choose the time and date you want and click “Search.” Any rooms available at that time will appear. If there are no rooms available, click the “Schedule” tab to see open times.
  5. Click the green plus sign next to the room you want to reserve. A pop-up window should appear.
  6. Enter the number of people who will be using the room (enter at least 2 even if you are using it by yourself).
  7. Click “Add Room.”
  8. Click “Next Step.”
  9. Type anything in the “Session / Name” field — but choose something that you’ll be able to recognize later on! This will display as the title of your reservation in the system and on the screens in the Library.
  10. Leave “Session / Type” as Study Session.
  11. Choose your Group from the dropdown.
    1. If Group is blank, click the magnifying glass and search for “Students.”
    2. If you’re using a phone and the magnifying glass does not appear,  try rotating your phone screen so the display is wider, or enable the “Desktop site.” Click the magnifying glass and search for “Students.”
  12. Choose Students; click “Close.”
  13. Enter your SFSU email address (don’t worry about the phone or fax).
  14. Check the box agreeing to the terms and conditions.
  15. Click “Create Reservation.”
  16. Congrats, you reserved a room! You will receive a confirmation via email. You can go straight to the room when it’s time.

Study Room Policies

  • Study rooms are for SFSU student, faculty, and staff use only.
  • Rooms can be used by one or more people at a time.
  • Rooms can be reserved for up to three hours a day, up to three days in advance.
  • You can use our dry erase markers to write on the whiteboard wall. Let us know if any markers need replacing!
  • No smoking or vaping — the alarm WILL go off, and the whole library will have to evacuate!
  • At the end of your reservation, erase the whiteboard wall and clean up after yourself using the trash, recycling, and compost bins just outside the room.
  • Leave the room promptly so the room is ready for the next reservation.

Faculty and Staff

In addition to reserving study rooms, faculty and staff can email librooms@sfsu.edu to reserve one of the following rooms:
