Due to campus-wide budget cuts, the funding available to purchase resources for the J. Paul Leonard Library will be reduced by approximately 30% over the next two years.

Each year, the Library will see a reduction of $400,000 for a total of $800,000 by the fall of 2025. The collection budget of $2.8 million will be reduced to $2 million.

Because of these reductions, the Library will need to cut spending on resources, including books, journals, databases, and media. Library faculty will be reaching out to colleges and programs to discuss the cuts and seek feedback on resources.

The Library will use the remaining collection budget to focus on resources needed to support classroom instruction and, whenever possible, the research needs of faculty.

For questions about the collection budget and potential cuts, please contact David Hellman, librarian and collection development coordinator, at hellman@sfsu.edu; or contact your library liaison.
