Description
A Bay Sunday broadcast on 25th of August 1989 presented by Barbara Rogers featuring a discussion with Angela Davis Ericka Huggins and Jonina Abron in the wake of Huey Newton's Death. The report starts with news of Newton's death and a summary of his life and leadership of the Black Panther Party followed by an in-studio discussion. Davis Huggins and Abron describe how and why they joined the Black Panther Party and the movement's legacy particularly for African American women through ongoing projects such as the National Black Women's Health Project. When asked to describe the significance of the Black Panthers movement Ericka Huggins states: "He is not a slave who strikes a blow for freedom... We allowed for people to raise their consciousness and understanding of themselves."
