Description
KRON-TV news footage from May 31 1966 featuring scenes from a press conference with civil rights activist and organizer Stokely Carmichael, who talks about a need for the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) to help organize a moderate base of white voters in Alabama, which he feels currently doesn't have one at all. Carmichael also explains what he meant by the phrase "integration is irrelevant", claiming that until there is an attempt to promote "true integration" current efforts in fact represent "an insidious substitute for white supremacy." Ends with the KRON reporter asking whether Carmichael predicts "a long hot summer" for America in 1966. Opening graphic designed by Carrie Hawks.
